Barbara Robertson: An Australian Artists Life

Friday 30 July 2010       10:30am

Multi Function Room

Mount Gambier Public Library

The Riddoch Art Gallery and Mount Gambier Public Library presents biographer Lorraine McLoughlin. McLoughlin celebrates the art of Barbara Robertson, an Adelaide born artist and sets her in an historical and social context in South Australia, highlighting what was happening in the art world and to women at the time. Her story is supported by 30 photographs by her internationally renowned photographic father, Eric Robertson.

But it is the fine art of Robertson which speaks for itself and there are 60 paintings reproduced in full colour across a range of genres including portraits and self portraits, still lifes, life studies, social commentary, religious art and concerns for Indigenous Australians. Lorraine McLoughlin will talk about Barbara’s art, about writing life stories and biographies as well as the self publishing process.

First Friday Exhibition

Soul Sisters

3 September - 25 September

Molten Chocolate Cafe

After successful exhibitions in 2008 and 2009 the Sole Sisters are back!

Take five female graphic designers, all of whom run their own businesses, take them out of the confines of their normal working environment and what do you get? It's "Sole Sisters'"

Bianca Gillin, Melissa Horton, Kristyn Jones, Simone Kain and Anna Mitchell all have a passion for creating. As 'soloists' they rarely have the opportunity to collaborate with other artists in day-to-day proceedings. The Sole Sisters Collective enables them to break free from the artistic restrictions imposed on them in their working lives, and allows them to work together to explore themes with total creative freedom.

Artworks featured in the Molten exhibition will be a prelude to the Sole Sisters upcoming exhibition 'Of Beauty Rich and Rare', in which they will explore the beautiful surrounds of the Limestone Coast and its five "C's" - Caves, Craters, Coast, Coorong and Coonawarra.
