Public Art

The City of Mount Gambier seeks expressions of interest from Australian artists and artist teams to develop site specific contemporary public art works in Percy Street and Ripley Arcade in Mount Gambier’s central business district.

We seek either emerging artists to propose a mentorship with an established artist, or an established artist to engage groups within the community for a multi-participatory public art project.

The theme, style and materials used for the installation are open to artistic interpretation. Artworks can be permanent, temporary or ephemeral in nature and must be of high artistic quality.

Artwork(s) can be two or three dimensional. These can include but are not limited to:

  • Large scale murals
  • Mosaics
  • Installations/ sculptures
  • Light based installations
  • Ephemeral or temporary
  • Interactive or kinetic

This project offers an opportunity to embrace creativity and define and shape landmarks within the city. Bold concepts and novel approaches which reflect and promote Mount Gambier and nurture a community committed to creating a sense of belonging and ownership will be highly regarded.

An onsite project briefing for interested artists will occur on Tuesday October 3, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Main Corner Foyer, 1 Bay Road Mount Gambier. If you are interested but unable to attend, or if you have any questions please contact Serena Wong on (08) 8721-2405 or

Expressions of interest must be received by 5:00pm on Monday 23rd October 2017 with work expected to begin by April 2018 for final installation in June 2018.
